From pool to per-person award

A bonus pool is a fixed amount that has to be divided fairly. Fintra distributes it pro-rata by a performance-rating weight, so the split is explainable and the pool total is respected to the cent.

Allocation

allocation = pool_total × (weight ÷ Σ weights)

Each employee’s award is the pool total scaled by their weight over the sum of all weights, rounded to cents. Weights come from performance ratings, clamped 0.5–2.0.

Every award explains itself

Tied to a cycle or the whole org

How the pool is scoped

  • Allocate against a performance cycle’s ratings, or
  • Allocate evenly across active employees when no cycle is specified
  • Recalculation upserts allocations idempotently
  • The award becomes a BONUS earning line in payroll

Inside Fintra

Bonus pool allocation is the mechanism behind pay-for-performance and feeds bonus payroll runs, so a rating turns into a taxed, traced paycheck through one connected path.

Frequently asked questions

How is a bonus pool split?

Pro-rata by a performance-rating weight: each award is the pool total times the employee’s weight over the sum of weights, rounded to cents, so the pool total is respected exactly.

Can I see why an employee got their amount?

Yes. Each allocation stores its basis (the rating weight), so awards are explainable and auditable.

What if there’s no performance cycle?

The pool can be allocated evenly across active employees; with a cycle, it’s weighted by that cycle’s ratings.

What happens to an allocation after it’s computed?

The pool is marked calculated, and the award can become a BONUS earning line in a payroll run - turning the allocation into an actual paycheck.
