Fintra Feature

A Receipt In, A Coded Draft Out

Capture a receipt and AI extracts the merchant, date, amount, category, and tax, then suggests the GL account from your coding history - so employees get a prefilled draft, not a blank form.

What receipt scanning in Fintra does

The receipt is the friction point of expenses. Fintra removes it: a receipt - uploaded text, an email body, or a structured payload - is extracted via the AI gateway, validated deterministically, and turned into a prefilled expense draft with suggested GL coding. The employee confirms instead of typing.

  • Extracts merchant, date, amount, category, and tax
  • Suggests the GL account and category from coding history
  • Validates and coerces the extraction deterministically
  • Fails soft - low confidence produces a hand-fillable draft, never a block

How capture works

From receipt to draft

  1. 1

    Capture

Provide the receipt as text, an email body, or a structured payload.

  2. 2

    Extract

The AI gateway pulls merchant, date, amount, category, and tax.

  3. 3

    Validate

Fintra validates and coerces the fields deterministically.

  4. 4

    Code

It suggests the GL account and category from coding history.

  5. 5

    Confirm

The employee reviews the prefilled draft and submits.

Reliable even when AI is not

Feeds policy and the ledger

  • The coded draft flows into the expense policy engine
  • Receipt presence satisfies receipt-required policy thresholds
  • Approved expenses journal to the ledger
  • The gateway call is metered and isolated behind a single seam

Frequently asked questions

What does Fintra extract from a receipt?

The merchant, date, amount, category, and tax. It then suggests the GL account and category from your and the company’s coding history, turning the receipt into a prefilled expense draft the employee confirms rather than fills in by hand.

What if the AI misreads a receipt?

Extraction is validated and coerced deterministically, and the process fails soft: if the AI gateway is unreachable or returns a low-confidence result, the fallback is a hand-fillable draft. Capture never blocks the employee, and the employee always confirms before submitting.

Can I submit receipts by email?

Yes. Receipt capture accepts uploaded text, an email body, or a structured payload. A structured payload is trusted as-is; free text is extracted by the AI gateway and then validated, so multiple capture paths land in the same coded draft.

Does a scanned receipt satisfy expense policy?

Yes. The coded draft flows into the expense policy engine, and having a receipt on file satisfies receipt-required thresholds - so an expense that would otherwise be flagged for a missing receipt clears policy automatically.
